Associate eLearning Developer (Full-time Contractors and/or Part-time Contractors)

eLearningEnhanced is hiring an Associate eLearning Developer. This will be a three month contract (with potential for extension).

General Description:

  • Using a script as a guide, you will assemble elements (text, audio, video, graphics, and animation) into a course/lesson.
  • This position is 100% remote; you need to communicate well with fellow team members to achieve shared project goals.
    • You will not be expected to work a "9-5" work schedule, but will be expected to be available when requested.
  • You will need a creative streak.
    •  Depending on the project you may need to create or download graphics and simple PPT style animations.
    •  When a customer asks for a few graphics or simple animation to illustrate how proper diet affects blood pressure, you should be able to do this without any further direction
  • This creativity should be tempered with an understanding of the intended audience, client culture, and learning preferences
  •  You may be asked to quality check other team members’ work.  You should not be afraid to give or receive constructive criticism.
  • Strive to maintain product consistency across the team (in other words the client should not be able to say “Oh, James made this lesson”).
  • You need to be very comfortable in PowerPoint and familiar with its more advanced features.
    • Can you animate a clock’s hands going from noon to 3:15?
    • Can you name four icons on the Picture Tools Tab without looking?
    • Are you the Master of Master Slides?
  • You should have plenty of experience in Articulate Studio, including Presenter, Quizmaker, and Engage.
  • Additional experience with image editing and/or simple Flash animation is a plus.

If you have not worked remotely before, please consider the following:

You must be comfortable with Cloud based technology like DropBox and web conferencing.

  • At least 90% of your feedback and direction will be via email or chat.
  • When you have “writer’s block” you can’t just roll your chair into the next cube and ask for help.
  • You need to function as a creative self-starter and work independently.

If you think this sounds like you please email your resume and preferred hourly rate to  careers@elearningenhanced.com

Secrets of the Articulate SDK

OK... I took me way to long posting this...

These are the files that I used for my presentation at DevCon11.

Not sure how well they will stand on their own without me pacing in front of a projector pointing knowingly and making witty comments... Also keep in mind that due to limitations of Articulate SDK what we are really looking at here are ways to hack into their code.
The examples I use in the Guide and in the Demo most likely will not be readly usable to you.. the idea is to get the creative juices going and get you thinking about "What if". The guide will point you to the right location for lots of goodies.

First you will want to grab this handy guide that highlights some of the hidden areas in Articulate's code (hang it in your office): http://frameentered.com/demos/DevCon/handout.pdf

Now to see live examples of this stuff in action check out this published file: http://frameentered.com/demos/DevCon/player.html

For you Flash Fiddlers out there you can download all the source files for the deom here: http://frameentered.com/demos/DevCon/devcon.zip

Some info about the live demo:

  • Slide 2
    • Controls button hides/shows the nave controls
    • Background button... you guessed it.. hide/show the slide background
    • Views button shows not only IF a slide has been viewed but also how many times.
    • Mask button illustrates how you could freak out your learners.
  • Slides 3,4 & 5
    • Switch from the Outline Tab to the "Add on Hacks" Tab. Play with those buttons on the appropiate slides.

Enjoy a feel free to post comments/questions below.

Cheap #Articulate Skins! And Full Featured Skins Too.

I'm glad to roll these out!We have been building custom skins for clients for a while. Now we have taken a lot of what we learned and used it to build these skins. There are many more features in these skins then in our previous ones. Of course features like these increase the development effort and therefore price. But I still wanted to find a way to get these out to the community at a decent price. So we are using a tiered arrangement. If you don't need or want all the new features we still have an inexpensive option. And if you only need some of the options there is a middle tier for that too.We hope to roll more of these out soon (if you have any design ideas feel free to forward them). And we will continue to make simpler fun skins too. Check out the feature list here:http://elearningenhanced.com/articulate-skins Here is a quick screenr highlighting some of the features.

Customizable Custom Articulate Skin!

I thought it would be cool if everyone could make their own Articulate skin! This skin allows you to use any graphics you want for the navigation. And you can place them left, right or center. This skin is fairly simple... no menu, tabs, etc. But it does handle branching and locked slides appropriately. Actually... Branching/locking is one of the features you should make sure any skin you use has... Play with it hereWatch the two screenrs below to see more about it.Buy it here

Articulate Engage Interaction (iPad theme)

This is my second custom Engage interaction and boy have I learned a lot! My next project just might be to rewrite the documentation for the Engage SDK...  This interaction was inspired by the new iPad. You can use the standard Engage options to turn the navigation on and off... and you can lock it to linear playback. Click the screen shot to play with a live sample. Low bandwidth HTML #Articulate player w/Audio (reports to LMS too!)

I am thrilled to post this. My partner and I have been working hard this last week or so to build an Articulate player that does not use Flash! And is still AICC / SCORM compliant! This solution will offer folks a way to view your content in low bandwidth situations or in browsers that do not support Flash. Like iPad, iPod, iPhone, Droid, etc, 3GS or better; soon we will a solution for older iPhones. Well.. It works now on older iPhones but the audio pops a new window... Some highlights:
  • Automatically adds HTML feature when/if you add PNGs of slides
  • Automatically adds embedded audio if you include files
  • Automatically switches to HTML if no flash is detected (and pngs are present)
  • Notifies LMS when course is complete
  • Uses HTML5 and degrades nicely for IE
UPDATE:
  • Now has slide index at bottom to allow user to jump to any slide.
  • Embeds audio player in IE
You can purchase it here Play with it here Watch the screenr below to see how it works:

Hide Articulate Engage Controls

This widget will let you hide the Title bar and/or navigation controls in Articulate Engage Interactions. Simply edit an XML file to select which interactions are effected.Watch the screenr for more details. Two Notes:1. It may not work on all "Community" Interactions.2. You will want to set some interactions to automatically advance. Purchase the Widget here

Chromeless Articulate Skin

This skin is dead simple. Just your content. No navigation.  It was inspired by @slhice's use of one of my other skins to create a website. Play with a demo here: http://frameentered.com/demos/Chromeless/player.html Buy it here

Track Flash Variables across multiple Articulate slides

How do you get multiple Flash files to track the same information across multiple Articulate slides?

The key lays in Flash’s _global property. The _global property refers to an object that exists at the highest level of a swf and is therefore accessible by any other swfs loaded into it. We can take advantage of that by tucking our variables into it.

The two key things to remember here are:

  • You need to target Flash Player 7 (or higher) when you publish your swfs.
  • When inserting your swf choose the “Movie plays independently” option.

Here is a quick screenr on how to do it:
