Brainstorm and Sort in Articulate

$50.00
Brainstorm And Sort

A client contacted me with a need to let students brainstorm a list of ideas/items and then later sort them into categories. I thought this was a great idea! So I got to work. I recorded a screenr (bottom of post) to demo some of its features and how to use it... but really its pretty self-explanatory.

  • Set up your slides with a bit of instruction at the top.
  • Drop the gather.swf into the slide where you want them to input info
  • Drop either sort1.swf, sort2.swf, or sort3.swf into the slide where they should... well sort.

Updated: We've updated this widget to include a few new features:

  • You can now set the items you want the learner to sort using a simple XML file (we've included one with demo data to help you get started.)
  • You can provide the user with two different types of feedback. First, you can tell the learner if they have put it in the right column or not. Then you can also tell them if they have the items in the right order or not!
  • Works in almost any enviorment Articulate, Lectoa, etc, even plain ole HTML.

Checkout these live demos:

Three notes:

  1. When you insert the swfs choose "When user clicks next" and "Movie plays independently"
  2. The sort swfs have green rectangles. They will not be visible when you publish. They are there to help you line up your graphics.
  3. You can can use both sort swfs in the same course in either order.

Bulk Articulate Preloader

$50.00

Got big videos, or swfs embeded in your slides?

Tired of waiting for them to load?

This widget will scan your course for flv, mp4, swf, etc and start loading them! This way when the student gets to the slide with the cool video they don't have to wait.

Note that it starts preloading after the course has started. This means that if the big video is on slide 1 the preloader will not have had time to work its magic. I suggest you put a few intro slides at the begining of your course.  Also, some browsers may not cache large files, so this may not work with all browsers and settings.  This preloader relies on the user's browser to get the files from the cache rather than re-downloading on each view.

Progress Bar: This version also comes with a separate swf file you can use to display the Preloader's progress! We have included a couple of colors and kept the design simple so that it will blend in with your course. Watch the screenr below to see it in action.

For you Flash Devs out there we are even including the source code for the Progress Bar. So you can customize it to your hearts content. If you make something cool record a screenr and share it with us.

To use:
After publishing your course copy the file into the published "player" folder (overwrite the file that is already there).
If you want to use the progress bar just insert it on a slide.

Captivate / Articulate Next Button

$100.00
Problem: You have imported a Captivate software training simulation into Articulate. You do not want the user to be able to skip the simulation. Solution: Lock the slide in Articulate. Insert this widget at the end of your Captivate 4 file. When the user gets to the end they will be presented with a "Next" button which will advance the Articulate presentation. This button is inserted into Captivate 4 and advances Articulate to the next slide. This allows you to lock Articulate's navigation until the user has finished the Captivate file.

Customizable Skin

$50.00
Customizable Articulate Skin
I thought it would be cool if everyone could make their own Articulate skin! This skin allows you to use any graphics you want for the navigation. And you can place them left, right or center. This skin is fairly simple... no menu, tabs, etc. But it does handle branching and locked slides appropriately. Actually... Branching/locking is one of the features you should make sure any skin you use has... Play with it here Watch the screenr below to see more about it.

Cut-n-Paste as PNG (Add-in for PowerPoint)

$10.00

There are a lot of good reasons to convert your PowerPoint graphics into PNGs... Especially if you are using Articulate. It can reduce file size and simplify a cluttered slide. You can also do cool stuff like set transparent areas; Tom Kuhlmann has a great screenr on that http://screenr.com/YTC I despise repetition in my daily life and often create snippets of code to automate stuff I find myself doing over and over. In this case I created a PowerPoint add-in that puts a button on the Ribbon that quickly does the cut-paste for me. I thought others might find it handy so I put it here for freebies. Here is a quick screenr on how it works:

Articulate Skin Features

User Configurable:

Many features of our skins may be set in the Articulate Templates Panel as you would with a standard Articulate Player. For instance if you don’t want a “Notes” button, just uncheck the option!

  • Seekbar
  • Slide numbers
  • Play/Pause/Next/Back buttons
  • Notes Button

Don’t like the colors of our skin? Purchase the Premium version and you can pick any colors you want! Use the Articulate Template Color Editor just like you would with any standard Articulate template.

  • Slide Index toggles with Articulate outline panel setting
  • Slide Notes/Script toggles with Articulate notes setting
  • Uses HTML5 and degrades nicely for IE and other older browsers

Update: We've created another version of the HTML Articulate player which also supports video. You can check it out here

Try a demo of the HTML Player.

To enable the HTML Player:

  1. From the PowerPoint file for the course, select File > Save As...
  2. Change the name to "slides" and the filetype to PNG
  3. At the next prompt, click the "Every Slide" button
  4. This will create a folder titled "slides" which contains a PNG image for each slide of the presentation
